Andes Hand Knit Cardigan – Indigo Alpaca/Cotton

The Andes Cardigan is knit manually, using a machine that requires no electricity to operate. This heavyweight piece of outerwear is made with alpaca-wrapped pima cotton yarns, which feature all the softness and warmth of alpaca, but with the additional durability and drape of cotton – the best of both materials. It’s dyed at the yarn level, using all natural dyes that compliment these exceptional fabrics.

The pattern features a large shawl collar and two front bucket pockets for storage. The front and back yoke are knit up with a diamond cable stitch, and genuine horn buttons close up the front. They’re cut large, with a relaxed fit and elongated sleeves that are designed to be worn cuffed at the wrists, so the whole thing layers easily over shirts, flannels, and other knitwear.

This edition features a fully natural (plant based, non-synthetic) indigo dye on both the cotton and alpaca yarns. Alpaca is the softer, warmer cousin of wool, much in the same way that pima cotton is the sturdier, more comfortable sibling of regular cotton. Over time, these two yarns will relax, and the garment will open up, increasing in size by about 10%.
